Winter Details Mostly For BILS

The information in this post is mainly for the BIL group.
If you are not a BIL you can stop reading.
Posting the information allows me to archive it for the future!

There are Three Things that the BILs will be doing in January and February.

  1. Mid-Year Check in with all of the people you do the paperwork management for.
  2. Your BIL Evaluation with me.
  3. Round 2 Observations

 MID YEAR CHECK IN

At the  January 27th Late Start session, we will be examining data from the assessments that you have been so busy doing!  This is a logical time for people to do the mid-year reflection.  I will mention it to all, but each BIL needs to check that these have been completed by the end of January!

BIL Evaluation

Just like in the Fall, you will meet with me for a 10-15 conversation about several components on the BIL Rubric.  This Evaluation period focuses on how your interactions with your "Billies" have been going.  Hopefully enough of our staff have completed the survey to give us some data about "YOU"!

I would like to use the Marking Day (January 24th) to do this.  I hope to have my grades done before the marking day....so I would just be sitting around eating BON BONS :)

Shoot me an email with the time you would like to meet on the 24th!

Round 2 Observations

The February Observation window opens on Februaty 1st.

Please pick a day to do your observations and publicize this to me and  the entire staff.
I will create the calendar for people to sign up when I have your dates.

Each staff member needs to have at least 1 observation done by someone who is NOT their BIL!

NYDIA is the only NON-BIL who can do observations, so I am assuming that you will have a mixed group for your observations.

I think that is all that you need to know right now....I am attending the LBIL meeting tomorrow....so if I learn anything that you need to know...I will let you know!

30 Days Hath November!

It is time for Round One of the ATPPS Observations!

You should be in contact with your BIL to make an appointment for your observation!

It is STRONGLY recommended that the first observation be done by your BIL!

Because ONLY BILS and Nydia attended that Inter-Rater Reliability meeting last week, they are the only qualified observers for the first two rounds of observations!

You will do THREE Observations!
November
February
April
There are FOUR parts to each of these observations!

Observation Windows are very defined by our ATPPS Plan!
You MUST have your observation complete by NOVEMBER 30th to qualify for the complete observation compensation.

Please LINK TO THIS GOOGLE CALENDAR to sign up for your observation with your BIL!

As always.....any questions.....concerns......don't hesitate to ask!

I am taking some time this week to look over all of your PDPs.  If you have any concerns or questios about your PDP, let me know!

PSI ATPPS Grant Approved!

Each year the money that is set aside when a building DOES NOT meet their School Goal and is made available to that school for Staff Development activities to support goal achievement for the current year!

Your outstanding SD team....Sally, Maria and Corey have written a grant that will bring over $5000 to PSI for our Curriculum Alignment work this year!

The grant was approved!

The planning process for how and when we will use the money will commence soon!
Stay tuned for more information.....but I urge you to participate as this is a way for you to realize the $200 that you DID NOT receive in your ATPPS money last Spring!!

I hope everyone's conferences go well!
I hope everyone has completed and signed off on their PDP Goal with their BIL!
I hope everyone is excited about doing the first round of observations in November :)

Inter-Rater Reliability Information

Mark Your Calendars now...

WHAT?

PSI INTER-RATER RELIABILITY GALA

WHEN?  WHERE?

This fabulous gathering will be held
Monday, October 28th in the Media Center!

 WHO?

All BILS plus any trained observer who wishes to do observations this year.

WHY?

The definition of Inter-Rater Reliability on Wikipedia:
In statistics, inter-rater reliability, inter-rater agreement, or concordance is the degree of agreement among raters. It gives a score of how much homogeneity, or consensus, there is in the ratings given by judges. It is useful in refining the tools given to human judges, for example by determining if a particular scale is appropriate for measuring a particular variable. If various raters do not agree, either the scale is defective or the raters need to be re-trained.

In much simpler terms:

You will watch a video of a model lesson before you come to the session.
You will score the teacher on pre-determined areas from the observation rubric.
You will come to the meeting ready to "defend"/"explain" why you scored each domain the way that you did.

The shared conversation will help us have a common sense of what is Proficient or Basic.  This will make our observation coaching more consistent and cohesive.

Remember....this meeting is mandatory for you to be on the list to do observations!

If you have any questions about this....don't hesitate to ask!

PLEASE RSVP by October 22nd
and I will send you the link to the Video along with the domains to be scored!

2013-14 PDP Information

I have been catching conversations about PDP Goals.  That tells me that many of you are well on your way to having your goal written and approved by October 30th!

  • Your PDP (Personal Development Plan) needs to be completed and approved by your BIL.
  • The PDP form is a part of the ONE big document that holds all of the paperwork for ATPPS.  (yours is found in your Google Drive with the name lastnameATPPS2013-14)
  • Your PDP is your Smart Goal Statement with supporting information, data and a implementation plan.
  • Your PDP statement is at the BEGINNING of your ATPPS Documentation.
  • Usually teams write the same or very similar goal statement so that the work they do in PLC can support everyone's goal.
  • YOU do NOT have to write a goal that is MATH related, even though the building ATPPS goal is MATH.

  • Remember! There is no longer a separate BEST PRACTICE reflection.
    • The best practice reflection is a PART of the PDP.
    • This means you need to think about the best practices that support your goal from the outset.
    • It is important that you think of your action plan and strategies as the BEST PRACTICE for your year end reflection.
    • At the Mid-Year Check you will be asked to reflect on how you are using these best practices.
    • At the Year End Check out you will need to reflect on how the best practice affected student growth.

Just a reminder....

The Stipend attached to the PDP is as follows:

Writing a SMART PDP = $200
Attaining goal in PDP/Reflections = $500

If you have any questions....let me or your BIL know what you need!

Now....I just have to figure out what my SMART PDP Goal will be.....hmmmmm!

BIL Stuff...if you aren't a BIL you don't NEED to read!

If you aren't a BIL you don't have to read any further!!  Lucky YOU!

If you ARE a BIL....please note!

I would like to meet as a BIL group this Friday after school.  If you read the following and come ready to make calendar decisions it can be a very short meeting!  I would also like to spend about 5 minutes talking about the PDP Goals!

  • I will have my first LBIL observation with Rich sometime this next week.
  • Then I will need to schedule a time with each of you for your BIL observation.  I think I will use a sub day and get them all done at once.  Please send me a comment if there are any days in the next couple of weeks when you are not going to be around.
  • We need to have our wonderful INTERRATER RELIABILITY meeting before the end of October.  This will probably be on a Monday after school.  I need to turn the date in to Rich so that all site meetings are posted.  Let me know if there are any Monday's that would not work for you.
  • Please touch bases with your BILLIES to remind them about the October 30th deadline for PDP Goals.  I will be writing a post about the guidelines for this.  In discussions with Corey, we hope that most of the 3-5 classroom teachers will choose a math focus and that K-2 can choose either, but will probably choose reading.

Some Little Tweaks in the BIL Assignments!

Of course missed a few people on the first go around with BIL assignments....but hey only 3 people...that is not too bad!!!  The revised assignments are these!

Remember.....at LEAST one observation from your assigned BIL....and the others are at your discretion.

The LBIL's MEETING Tomorrow!

I am attending the first Lead BIL meeting tomorrow morning!
The agenda includes a whole bunch of stuff that you probably don't need to think about, lucky you....but I guess if I am going to the meeting I will HAVE to think about them!!!

Rich Keith the new ATPPS Coordinator reminds us that the PDP is due the end of October!
I know that SOUNDS far away.....but it isn't.

In the meantime.....Corey and I will be tweaking the PSI School MATH goal to submit as our ATPPS goal for the year.  (We choose ONE goal for ATPPS even though we have 2 for District-School Goals)

We are also eligible to apply for a SD-Grant to utilize the money that is available because we DID NOT meet our goal last year!  This is a great way to "reclaim" $$$ for a positive purpose!  If you have any great suggestions for a grant proposal that would be staff development related, I am sure Corey, Sally and Maria would love to hear about it!  Or just shoot me a comment!

And lastly:  Just a reminder of how the ATPPS stipends break out in terms of "what is worth what"!

Observations = $1.100
Writing a SMART PDP = $200
Attaining goal in PDP/Reflections = $500
Site Goal Attainment = $200

Have a Great Day.....I will let you know if there is any "big news" from the LBIL meeting!
